A base sherd from a Roman vessel with a pedestal base. The sherd is Oxford Colour-Coated ware and dates from the c. 4th century AD. The sherd is abraded and worn but the underside retains a potter's stamp. Although the stamp is worn it appears to read: I X I II X I V II. Several examples of stamps using crosses and vertical lines are recorded in Young (2000), and a similar stamp reading I X I X III I X V II was used at Cowley. The wear to the base sherd may be hindering a correct reading of the stamp. The form of the vessel is uncertain however it may have been a bowl.
