A cast lead weight or possible spindle whorl of uncertain date. The weight is hemispherical and circular in plan, with a concave base and convex top. It has a sub circular hole drilled through the centre. It is undecorated and covered with pitting and scratch marks. The weight has a cream-grey patination and weighs 7.82g.
Lead weights, along with spindle whorls, were commonly used from the Iron Age through to the Post Medieval period and are difficult to date with any certainty. Decorated examples are thought to date to the Medieval to Post Medieval periods while undecorated examples cannot be securely dated without supporting contextual evidence.
