A copper alloy figurine of a man, dating to the post-medieval period or later. The figurine is very worn but some detail is identifiable. The figure has a heavily moulded chest, buttocks and shoulders / back muscles (possibly with ribs visible). The figure is bearded and appears to be wearing a helmet. The figure is standing and its head is turned looking over the right shoulder; the left arm projects outwards and sideways from the waist, and the hand appears to be grasping a stick or spear, broken above the hand. The right arm also projects outwards but is broken near the elbow. The figurine is very worn and the nature of the man is uncertain - he could be a soldier (with armour over his body), but this is uncertain; the style of the head may indicate a eastern influence or depiction. A figurine depicted in a similar stance (SWYOR-055D62) depicts a blacksmith and is dating to the Victorian period. The colour and condition of the metal on this example suggests at least a post-medieval date, and it may be more modern, however no close parallels have been identified to help date it. Suggested date: AD 1500-1900.
