Flint end and side scraper, sub-ovate in plan and semi-circular in profile and triangular section, with abrupt unifacial retouch at the proximal end and along part of the right margin of the dorsal face, up to the edge of the cortex. There is also some more oblique retouch along the left margin of the dorsal face. There is some natural fracturing, creating a stepped edge on the medial ridge of the dorsal face. A layer of cortex remains over half of the dorsal face from the mid-point to the distal end, and around its edge there is also damage through frost fracturing.
The colour of the flint is a mottled light grey to buff colour, and the colour and texture of the cortex suggests that the flake was derived from a local beach pebble. The length to breadth ratio is 3:2 which is typical of this type of scraper.
Bond (2004) illustrates similar end scrapers on pages 137 & 151, Figs.5.124 & 5.135, Nos.F14, F22 & F123, which are dated from the later Neolithic to the Early Bronze Age.
Notes:
The end scraper is photographed upside down with the proximal end at the top as it is the worked end.
