Post-medieval copper alloy button with integral drilled lug. The sub-rectangular head of plano-convex section is decorated with a moulded elaborate quatrefoil. Head 15.5mm x 8mm, 4mm thick. Overall length 15mm. Cf. examples from East Walton (HER 29273), West Acre (HER 32619), Foulsham (HER 41224), Fransham (HER 25024), Guestwick (3113), Holme Hale (HER 44072, NMS-FF89A1), Howe (HER 13850), Langley with Hardley (HER 31397), Oxborough (HER 53719), Postwick (HER 29658) and an apparently undecorated one from Barton Bendish (HER 23934). A very similar button from the Thames foreshore was thought to be from a 15th-century context (Read 2005, 14, no.41). Perhaps a date in 16th or early 17th century is more likely.
