Lead spindle whorl. Cast plano-convex or hemispherical whorl with a central moulded aperture of diameter 9.4mm, Walton Rogers form A1. Patinated overall. This form was perhaps derived from that of cattle femur caput whorls, a type which became especially common in the 10th century, as at Anglo-Scandinavian Coppergate. This whorl would probably be used to ply cord. Suggested date: Early Medieval, 850-1000.
