Lead alloy toy soldier. Hollow-cast figure of 54mm or 1:32 scale representing an officer of an infantry Regiment of the British Army in full dress uniform, manufactured by William Britains in accomplished naturalistic style in a marching pose. An integrally cast base, originally rectangular, is lightly torn and twisted. The head and a moveable sword arm are lost, and the figure is patinated overall. The rank is denoted by a sash, scabbard fittings and by medals. The trousers are tucked into the boots, a detail which suggests a date up to around the end of the First World War. Britains were the leading British manufacturers of 'tin soldiers'. This is one of several broken toys reported from the same location. Suggested date: Modern, 1890-1920.
