A cast copper-alloy mount from a post-medieval candle snuffer, more accurately a wick trimmer. The mount is a long, narrow rectangle in plan with a trefoil shaped terminal at the short ends. The terminals of each trefoil are angled; one has been abraded following old damage. The trefoils are decorated with three blind drilled marks. The body of the mount, on the upper surface is divided into two sections by a transverse groove; a further transverse groove separates the terminals. In each section there is a trio of stamped ring-and-dot designs; on one side two of the rings overlap. These are set within an incised border. In two corners of the mount, along edge is a circular perforation, both abraded through. The sides of each section of the mount feature a bevelled recess.

The mount has a mid/dark-green patina. The reverse of the mount has file marks visible, particularly on the terminals. The central portion has a 'U' shaped discolouration which covers the side that includes two perforations. This discolouration relates to soldering to the box of the wick trimmer. In profile the mount has been slightly bent down at the end with the damaged terminal. Further examples of such mounts can be found on this database, some more ornately finished. For other examples of this kind of scissors-type candle snuffer, see WAW-35DFC3, SWYOR-6E9078, LIN-F6A115 and PUBLIC-8BF257. For a mount in place on a broken candle snuffer see HAMP-917D56 on this database.
