A cast copper-alloy strap clasp of Medieval date. It is complete but the attachment plate is folded backwards and stuck in the back face of the clasp. The clasp has a rectangular frame with cylindrical bar and expanded outer edge that is U-shaped in section with moulded decoration on its front face. This comprises a central human face that is oval in form and has incised oval eyes with diagonal grooves below for the nose and mouth. Above the head the outer edge of the frame is triangular and has a series of two transverse grooves at the top of the head, a further groove at the outer edge, to produce what appears to resemble a mitre. Hinging around the bar is a sheet copper-alloy plate that is flat, rectangular in form and with upper and lower plate of equal size. A large oval aperture is present at the frame end of the plate, perhaps a rivet or pin hole, with a second central rivet hole visible at the attachment end and holding in place a separately cast copper-alloy rivet. Traces of the original leather belt or strap are present between the attachment plates. The entire object measures 32.14mm in length (folded), 13.76mm in width, 9.43mm in thickness (folded; 6.89mm at frame), and 6.94g in weight.

This is a folding strap clasp of Medieval date. A similar example with crowned head is published from London (Egan and Pritchard, 1991: no. 568), and a number with possible mitred head have been recorded through the PAS (e.g. HAMP-E09056, NMGW-3EFFB4, WILT-D17DC7). It is of probable 14th century AD date.
