Unique ID: SF-EBC502

Object type certainty: Certain

A fragment of an incomplete copper-alloy cruciform early Anglo-Saxon brooch. Only the incomplete central panel of the head plate and the top knob of this brooch now survive. The head plate is rectangular in shape, flaring slightly towards its missing base, it measures 25.6mm in surviving length and 24mm in width. There are faint traces longitudinal boarders of crescent shaped indentations down either side of the head plate. The top knob (17mm in length and 11mm in width), is integral and complete. On the back face, which is flat the remains of the pin loop can be seen. This brooch is likely to have been deposited in an early Anglo-Saxon grave and was found in association with several other early Anglo-Saxon brooches and objects.
