An incomplete cast copper-alloy Roman Colchester derivative double pierced lug bow brooch. It is missing the pin, lower half of bow, foot and catchplate due to old breaks. The wings are semi-cylindrical in form, undecorated, and separated at their centre by an integrally cast rear facing double pierced lug. This holds in place a separately cast copper-alloy axis bar, spring chord and spring of which three coils survive, the pin now missing due to old breaks. The bow is oval sectioned with stepped moulding to each side where the bow and wings meet. It tapers before terminating in old breaks. The entire brooch measures 19.69mm in length, 17.98mm in width at wings, 7.26mm in width at bow, 3.35mm in thickness at bow, and 4.10g in weight.
This is an incomplete Roman Colchester derivative double pierced lug bow brooch. It finds parallels in an example published from Hacheston (Blagg et al., 2004: no. 110) and is of 1st century date, c.43-100 AD.
