Notes:

The Latin text translates literally as 'The dead warn of death', ie. the dead warn that you too will die'. Such moralising inscriptions were especially common in the 17^th century and into the early years of the 18^th century. Without a maker's mark or dated inscription these rings are often impossible to date precisely, but the balance of probability indicates a date before 1713.

As this object is made of more than 10% precious metal and is over 300 years old, it constitutes potential Treasure under the Treasure Act 1996.
