Copper alloy, painted or oiled, possible ingot. Cast oval bun shaped lump of metal with an impressed oval panel in one side. The surface appears to bear extensive traces of a black deposit. A tiny spur of yellow metal indicates this to be or to include copper alloy, despite its leaden tint. The mass does not appear to coincide with subdivisions of known metrical systems. Several similar objects of varied weights were reported from the vicinity. Suggested date: Early Medieval , 850-1100.
