Badly distorted post-medieval silver hunting whistle. A collar of twisted wire masks the junction of the crumpled tubular mouthpiece and the remainder, which is formed from butt-jointed sheet. The length between the collar and a second one is decorated with barley twist. A wire suspension loop is soldered over the butt joint near the first collar, and the remains of two other, smaller loops are attached to the second. Beyond the latter a shield-shaped maker's mark is stamped near the open end. Length c.65mm. Diameter c.12mm. Weight 7.1g. Similar examples published by the PAS are variously dated to the 16th and 17th centuries.
