BUCKLE

Unique ID: SOM-8680A3

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A copper-alloy double-looped buckle of post-medieval date (c. 17th century), incomplete in so far as it is missing its pin. In plan, one loop is D-shaped and the other is trapezoidal. The upper surface of the frame is bevelled externally and the underside is flat. At the centre of the outside edge of the D-shaped loop is a double transverse ridge which would have acted as a pin rest. At each end of the pin bar is a triple moulding. The buckle is corroded and most of both faces are coated in black lacquer. A similar buckle has been published by Whitehead (1996, 91; ref. 568) dated c. AD 1575-1700.
