Pewter wine taster. Lathe turned, of fine quality and would appear to be comprimsed of 99% tin and 1% copper (antimony),no lead. It would have had a single lateral handle, now missing, but attachment hole is still evident. In the interior of the base there is cast decoration consisting of, two initials 'W' and 'B', there appears to be a third initial, but it is so worn that it is indecipherable. There is also a circle of raised dots with beading around the edge of the circle. The rest of the design is so worn that it is very hard to decipher. The vessel does not appear to have a maker's touch mark and this could indicate that this artefact is not English and so could have been brought in from Europe.

Notes:

Wine tasters are not very common.
