HOOKED TAG

Unique ID: SF-BBE153

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A cast copper-alloy Post-Medieval hooked tag of Read's Early Post-Medieval Class E Type 3 (Read, 2008: no. 405). It has a flat plate that is sub-triangular in form and with moulded decoration on the front face. At the top of the plate is an integral rectangular sewing loop, now bent backwards due to post-depositional damage. The moulded decoration on the front face comprises a central swag motif with multi-pellet collar at juncture of plate and hook. The hook itself is triangular in section and curves backwards to a pointed tip. The entire object has a green patina and measures 33.79mm in length, 17.94mm in width at plate, 1.93mm in thickness and 3.11g in weight.

This is a Post-Medieval hooked tag belonging to Read's (2008) Early Post-Medieval Class E Type 3 hooked tags, with a near identical parallel published by him from London (Read, 2008: no. 405). This indicates a date range in the 16th-17th centuries AD for the current example.
