A copper-alloy Fowler type G penannular brooch dating to the Early Medieval period, c. 500-600.
The brooch is incomplete, with approximately 50% of the frame remaining. The frame is sub-circular in section and decorated on the obverse and reverse with moulded ribbed decoration. The terminal is sub-rectangular in plan and consists of a flat, central lozenge with triangular corners bevelled down. In section, the terminal is sub-rectangular.
The decoration of the terminal marks it as a Fowler type G (Dickinson form G1), though it is relatively thin and less 'chunky' compared to other examples of the same type.
Notes:
Penannular brooches of this date are associated with a 'British' tradition, but this object was found in a field with a number of early Anglo-Saxon objects, and should probably be seen as coming from a disturbed furnished burial.
