A copper-alloy mount, dating from the post-Medieval period.
The symmetrical mount has two sub-oval sides and a central 'bar'. On the surface of each side a curved line extends into a pair of adjacent scrolls, located at the outer side, with an outward-projecting knop between. A lobed knop or moulded flower head also occupies the area at either end of the central 'bar'. Two rivets have been soldered to the reverse, one at either end. One of these rivets has been deliberately bent towards the centre of the mount. The surfaces of the mount bear a white metal coating.
Dimensions: length: 28.2mm; width: 18.8mm; thickness of mount (not including rivets): 2.9mm. Weight: 4.41g.
