A complete copper alloy possible bracelet or armlet, of possible Roman dating (2nd to 4th Centuries AD).
The bracelet is sub circular in plan, with a D shaped section.
The bracelet is a mid to dark green colour, with an even surface patina. Abrasion, caused by movement whilst within the plough soil, has resulted in a loss of some of the original surface detail.
The bracelet measures 64.72 mm in length, 71.30 mm wide and 2.57 mm thick. The bracelet is 4.95 mm wide. It weighs 14.0 grams.
Similar plain armlets or bracelets, were found at the Butt Road cemetery side, and was dated to 2nd to c.450 AD (Crummy, 1983, 38, #1640-1651). This bracelet is closest in style to that of #1643-4, so it is possible that it is of similar dating, however without the clasp being present, identification of this as a bracelet is only a possibility. It could be a piece of thick Post medieval copper alloy wire that fulfilled a different function.
