BOW BROOCH

Unique ID: SF-9DBF22

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

Copper alloy brooch fragment, Colchester derivative hinged type. Upper half only, missing most of one wing and pin. Iron hinge bar. Mid wing there is a convex moulding with horizontal line hatching and flanked by single grooves; any further decoration towards the wing terminal has been destroyed by corrosion. At the junction of the wings and the bow there is a raised area (1mm high) on each side of the bow with a curved edge echoing the line of the wing edge. The bow has a slightly convex back and a rounded front with a narrow centre rib. There are traces of an angled groove on each side, largely removed by patches of corrosion. Surviving length 24mm, surviving width 23mm. Broadly similar to various Suffolk egs (Willisham, Wenhaston, Blythburgh(?BLB 014)).
