Three postmedieval silver hammered coins. These coins are currently being considered as potential Treasure.
A postmedieval silver hammered coin of Henry VII (1485 - 1509). The coin is a groat minted between AD 1505 to 1509. Profile, regular issue, pheon mintmark. The coin is similar to Spink reference number 2258 (2011 edition). Diameter: 28mm
A postmedieval silver hammered coin of Mary I (AD 1553- 1558). The coin is a groat, minted between AD 1553 to 1554. Simialr to Spink reference number 2492 (2011 edition).
A postmedieval silver hammered coin of James I (AD 1603 to 1625). The coin is a third issue shilling with a thistle mark, which dates the coin from AD 1621- 1623. The coin is similar to Spink reference 2669 (thistle mark) but has a reverse similar to 2668 (no plume above shield).
Note: There is no plume over the shield on the reverse of the coin; which is seen on coins with mint marks 125 - 46. As the mint mark is 125 ( a thistle) it would be expected that there would be a plume over the shield
