Incomplete cast lead bridle boss or horse harness mount, circular in plan, with plain, flat but raised central face, surrounded by a moulded border with oblique incised lines in the form of a twisted rope. The boss might have been mounted on the leather blinker on a horse's bridle. On the back of the mount are the bases of two extant iron rivets that would have attached to the leather blinker or strap as part of the horse harness. The back of the boss is more corroded and cracked than the face and two sections of the border are missing, at opposite edges of the boss, suggesting that the object was forced through something made of stronger material with straight sides.
Similar examples are recorded in YORYM-E88F35 and YORYM-C090B4, which are dated from the 18th century.
Read (1988) illustrates a more elaborate bridle boss with a similar ropework border on page 181, No.1230, which is dated from the late 18th century to the 19th century.
