Notes:

Condition is generally poor (due to corrosion not wear) but the coins were retrieved from a small area and clearly form part of a dispersed hoard. An addendum of a further 8 coins found in September and October 2014 is listed separately after the first group. They do not alter the interpretation of the hoard below in any way.

As mentioned, most of the coins are corroded but it can be seen that their condition when they went into the ground was evidently very good. Given this lack of wear it is very tempting to connect the deposition of this coin hoard (assuming we are not dealing with an accidental purse loss) with the reconquest of Britain by Constantius Chlorus in 296. Certainly, given the demonetisation of these radiates in 296, the hoard cannot date to very much later.

Note: Image number in file names does not relate to the catalogue for coins 1 - 14. This was an arbitrary number assigned before the catalogue was written. Coins 15 - 22 the catalogue number and image file name do correspond.

2013T420 and 2014T836.

[Sam Moorhead note: this hoard contains British Empire coins]
