An incomplete copper-alloy Thomas class A1 strap end of the later Early Medieval period, c. AD 800-1100.
The strap end has a split end with two circular holes set inside from the end, each which would have taken a rivet. The terminal is missing, though the obverse is decorated on the split end, the central panel, and the very top of the terminal decoration can also be seen. Decoration appears to be cast integral. On the split end, this consists of a sunken fan-shaped field with a trifoliate leaf in the panel in relief. The central panel consists of an outer border of squares with a circular depression in the centre of each, with an inner border that is undecorated and frames a pseudo-style 1 beast. The central panel retains what appears to be a white paste in the voids between the decoration in relief, though this paste is not seen on the terminal or the split end. The ears of the mouse head terminal are seen just above the break. The reverse is undecorated.
