Object type certainty: Probably
Workflow status: Published Find published

Copper alloy and gilt mount, probably the hasp of a book, 43mm long and 36mm wide. The overall shape is rectangular but the edges have cut away pieces which give a zig zag edge, which is scalloped. The surface is decorated with diamond shapes which cover the whole surface exept the centre which has a flower motif. The scalloped edge is picked out with a beaded border and there is a punched hole at one end which is surrounded by linear beading. Gilding is present on most of its surface, but its worn and the area surrounding the loop is cracking. Probably dates to the post medieval period.
