Two silver-gilt fragments (not adjoining), representing parts of the shoulder and bezel of a finger ring. Both pieces are straight-sided, tapering in width from one end to the other. The main decorative feature of the larger fragment is a raised shoulder panel in which a beaded ridge extends longitudinally down the centre, flanked by a pair of parallel channels which extend to the outer edge. At the wider end of this fragment, adjacent to the pointed upper side of the shoulder panel, there is a second beaded ridge, aligned transversely and bordered by a pair of grooves. This second ridge marks the start of the bezel, the flat surface of which bears an incised design of uncertain nature.
Surviving length: 14.6mm; maximum width: 7.1mm; thickness: 1.7mm. Weight: 1.11g
This piece is typical of a form of Late Medieval finger ring often referred to as the 'Iconographic type', as the bezels often bear religious imagery. Similar recorded examples include a fragment found at Beech Hill, West Berkshire (Treasure case 2011 T450) and a complete ring from Winterborne Kingston, Dorset (2011 T380).
