An incomplete fragment of probable silver casting waste, of uncertain dating, but probably Roman to Medieval (AD 43 to AD 1500).
The fragment is sub oval in plan and section. The upper surface is smooth, whereas the lower surface is pitted.
It measures 22.76 mm in length, 12.17 mm wide and 7.15 mm thick. It weighs 7.9 g.
It is a mid to dark grey / silver colour, with an even surface patina.
As the fragment is undiagnostic of date and function, it can not be proved that it is older than 300 years old, and is therefore not classified under the requirements of the Treasure Act 1996 and does not need to be reported to the local coroner.
