A copper alloy Medieval seal matrix with a circular base and hexagonal-sectioned stem which terminates with a trefoil loop with a collar below. The underside of the matrix has a central device which consists of two busts in profile facing each other, with a bird above and a long-stemmed flower between the busts. The legend around the device starts with a star and reads * LOVE ME ANDE I YE (where the Y is a thorn, representing a TH). The matrix measures 20.67mm long, and 17.82mm diameter. It weighs 6.1g. The surface is slightly abraded at the edges and on the base but otherwise has a mottled dark green patina.
The matrix is anonymous, with a motto which is also found on other matrices such as NMS 37B8F3, NMS-BA5875 and NMS-0D1555. It is often mis-read as Love Me and Give, as shown in Tonnochy 1952, no. 738. Anonymous seal matrices are normally dated to the 14th century.
