A copper alloy harbick (or havette, or shear-board hook), a double-ended hook, rectangular-sectioned chamfered edges, central grip comprises a rectangular expansion (6mm x 5mm) with transverse notches along all four outer angles. The slightly bowed arms (one bent) taper to a acutely-angled sharp-hooked terminal. Length (unbent) 172mm. Cf. Read (2008), Class A, Type 1, no.743. Harbicks were used 'for securing cloth to the cropping board or horse during the process of shearing the nap' (Goodall, I. and Keene, K. in Biddle (1990, 239). 15th - 16th century.
