A cast lead spindle whorl, probably dating from the late medieval to early post medieval period (c AD 1300-1600). It is bi-conical, with a circular, slightly off centre perforation. The perforation measures 10.4mm in diameter. There is a raised casting seam/band around the circumference. Both sides are decorated, with a series of lines and occasional criss-crosses running vertically from the perforation edges to the casting seam. The object is in fair condition and has an off-white to cream patina.
Similar examples of spindle whorls have been found in contexts from the Roman through to the Post-Medieval period. However most are typically dated to the Medieval period.
