A copper-alloy double-sided coin weight of Post-Medieval date. It is square in form, rectangular in section and with worn surfaces. The obverse depicts crowned busts of Ferdinand and Isabella (1469-1504 AD) facing one another, within a beaded circular border. The reverse carries a maker's mark comprising a hand within a beaded(?) border flanked by the initials A I. It measures 15.10mm in length, 15.11mm in width, 3.88mm in thickness and 6.38g (98.4 grains) in weight.
This is a Post-Medieval coin weight for a coin of Spanish monarchs Ferdinand and Isabella, possibly a double excellente or 2 reales (Withers and Withers, 1995: pp. 30-31, 71). The hand on the reverse indicate that it was produced in the Low Countries at Antwerp, the initials probably indicating manufacture in the 16th century AD (Withers and Withers, 1995: p. 60).
