LEAF ARROWHEAD

Unique ID: PUBLIC-A2BF51

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Published Find published

A thin lenticular section bifacially worked leaf-shaped arrowhead of cream flecked grey-brown flint. Pressure flaking has partly covered both sides with flake scars. However a lot of the ventral side of the flake blank remains as do some of a pair of original dorsal scars. The edge is finished and nearly straight but the side view is almost banana shaped in profile as the knapper has had to fight the natural shape of a struck flake and not done enough to totally remove its form. The arrowhead is complete and of a pleasing symmetrical leaf shape. It appears that it was surplus and not selected for hafting; rather it was used in hand with a diagonal line of use gloss running from a small area of the edge towards the tip. Other leafs and transverse types are found nearby.
