Copper alloy

Unidentified object fragment. Cast round section rod, slightly tapering in its diameter towards a ball terminal. The broader end is stepped, diminishing there from diameter 8mm to diameter 4.6mm. Suggested date: Post-Medieval, 1500-1600.

Length: 44.6mm, Diameter (at terminal): 7.7mm, Weight: 12.05gms.


The finder kindly offered an identification as a purse bar fragment which was initially followed by this reporter. However, David Williams kindly comments: 'This is not purse related'.
