Late Medieval or early post medieval silver mount, 8mm long, 6mm wide and 3mm thick. The object is in fair condition and weighs 0.53grams. The object is circular in form and rectangular in section. It consists of a semi-circular flat plate which has two circular fixing prongs on its underside. The straight edge is attached to another semi-circle which falls away at a curving angle and contains a small circular hole.
This object is very similar to, but plainer than, two previous Treasure cases. 2007T455 (HAMP-E271F0) has been dated to the late medieval period and 2010T539 (NLM-538148) which is very ornate and has been dated to the early post medieval period. The function of these objects has not been confirmed.
Notes:
As the object is made of silver and is over 300 years old, it constitutes potential Treasure under the stipulations of The Treasure Act 1996.
