A Medieval cast copper-alloy zoomorphic terminal from a right-angled drop handle (1300-1500). This collar, one of a pair, would have fitted over the terminal end of a handle and would have been secured by the handle being burred over. This is circular in section and flat at each end and is in the form of a crouching pig like-beast. The head is delineated by a line curving over its back and has slits for eyes and mouthThe haunches are shown by another but opposing line. The rear of the beast has the circular scar of the join with the handle. A similar terminal can be seen on an illustrated handle from London (Egan 1998: 175, ref: 487). As cited by Egan (1998, 175), a similar handle survives from an original pair on a shallow sheet bowl from a hoard of 14th-16th century metalwork found in Wales. These types of handles may also have come from caskets or chests.
