A complete and slightly worn cast copper-alloy single looped buckle of late Medieval to early post-Medieval date (c. 1450-c. 1550).
The frame is 'D'-shaped in plan, moulded at the front and flat at the rear. It has a narrowed off-set bar. At the front, regular spaced diagonal lines create a rope-work effect. The bar is roughly square in cross-section. The freely moving tapering copper-alloy pin is flat and has a minor longitudinal 'groove' on the underside of the shaft. The pin is 25.69mm in length, 1.67mm thick on the shaft and is 4.41mm in width at the loop.
The frame and pin are similar in colour. They largely have a green patina with small specks of corrosion. Within the grooves on the frame the colour is a buff.

Length: 23.37mm; width: 33.81mm; thickness: 3.48mm. Weight: 7.06g.

A similar buckle frame is illustrated and dated c. 1450-1550 AD (Whitehead 1996: 25, ref: 122).
