A complete Medieval cast copper-alloy casket key, c. late 12th-early 14th century AD. The key has a seemingly solid stem of oval cross-section with a hollow end. The bow is circular in shape with a circular suspension hole with some wear on the inner edge, suggesting it was attached to something. At the other end, the bit is sub-rectangular in shape with a pair of rectangular clefts central on either short side. Similar keys can be found illustrated in Read (2001, p72; Nos. 545-547, 549-550) all of which he dates to this period.
