A probable MODERN IMITATION of an Early-Medieval (Anglo-Saxon) silver penny of Ethelred II (978-1016). Bare headed type, 997-1003 (North 1994, 159, ref: 774). Moneyer Leofman, Canterbury mint.
The coin's weight is too high for an early-medieval issue and its style and quality of execution is poor suggesting it is a modern imitation.
Obverse: +EÐELRED REX ANGLO[ ]; Bare headed bust left
Reverse: LEOF[M]ANM-OCÆNT Voided long cross
Diameter: 22.3mm. Weight: 2.97g.
This coin has been double struck on the obverse and reverse.
Notes:
