A fragment of a Roman gunmetal Trumpet brooch dating to the second century AD. The leg, acanthus leaf moulding and catchplate remain. The acanthus leaf moulding is finely executed and flanks a central disc; underneath are two moulded ribs with a panel between them which is incised with diagonal grooves; the leg is triangular in section and is marginally grooved, as well as possessing a vertical groove on either side of the apex; the catchplate is triangular and solid. The brooch is 25mm in length and the width of the foot is 11mm. The brooch appears to have been deliberately cut where the bow meets the acanthus leaf moulding and at the foot through the catchplate.
