Medieval copper alloy buckle. The composite oval frame is formed from a curved sheet strip offset and pierced for the insertion of a separate bar. There is a pin notch. The pin is a tapering strip. The plate, formed from sheet folded in half widthways, is equipped with a pin slot, frame recesses and a single rivet. There is some similarity to Roman buckles with composite frames but the frame is not cast. Overall length 30.5mm. Frame 15.5 x 22mm. Plate 19 x 17mm. Cf. examples from West Rudham, Norfolk (HER 30842, NMS-E13256) and Marsham, Norfolk (HER 39717, NMS-AB64F5). Perhaps 15th century.
