A copper alloy 'medallion' celebrating Admiral Keppell.

The object shows a bust of the Admiral, half right, and the legend ADML AVGVSTVS KEPPEL HON. The medallion is machine-stamped from a thin circular sheet, and may possibly have re-used as a medallion by piercing and threading on a length of coarse twine. The original purpose is unclear.

Admiral Augustus Keppel, 1st Viscount Keppel PC (25 April 1725 - 2 October 1786) was an officer of the Royal Navy during the Seven Years' War and the War of American Independence. During the final years of the latter conflict he served as First Lord of the Admiralty.
