Silver coin fragment. Late Saxon penny fraction, possibly a contemporary copy of Edward the Elder (899-924); appears to have the obverse design on both sides. The earliest in the sequence illustrated by Mossop (1970, The Lincoln Mint c.890-1279, Corbitt and Hunter, Newcastle upon Tyne, plate 1) include examples with the OLE ending and coins identified as Viking copies of coins of Alfred. However, he does not illustrate copies of Edward's coins.
