A slightly worn but probably complete cast copper-alloy unidentified object of unknown date. This object is formed from a circular in plan ring with a central quatrefoil aperture, and is sub-oval to sub-rectangular in section. Extending from the central aperture to either side of the ring and on both surfaces are two cast ridges which are 'U' shaped in plan; in profile these connect to form an uneven 'X'. It is possible that these recessed areas with raised ridges might have held a strap or fastening, although no traces of wear are visible to the interior surface. The body of the ring below these cast ridges is thicker and decorated with a single curving spiral that terminates to the underside of the ring, which appears complete; the upper portion of the ring is plain and narrowed. This artefact has a dark grey colour overall. It is likely the object is a strap fitting of some kind, presumably a strap junction or strap union, possibly for harness and possibly a small terret of late Iron Age date of an uncertain type. However more precise dating is not possible so a wide date range covering the Late Iron Age to Post-Medieval period is suggested.
This ring measures 23mm in length, with a width of 24.3mm and a thickness of 6.8mm. It weighs 8.76 grams.
