Incomplete medieval silver gilt finger ring. Triangular-sectioned bezel forming two rectangular concave faces, the shoulders and surviving hoop faceted to form lozengiform fields with triangular facets to either side. The rear of the hoop and most of the sides are missing. The two halves of the bezel are engraved alike with a sinuous foliate motif within a single line border, the triangular facets at the shoulders with radiating lines, and the surviving lozengiform facet with a stylised leaf. The decoration on the other surviving facets is worn. Each of the facets is gilded with a narrow ungilded border separating them.
Width of bezel 8mm. Length of bezel 15mm. External diameter (reconstructed) 24mm. Internal diameter (reconstructed) 20mm. Weight 3.9g.
Rings in a similar style are well known and include examples from Norfolk (NMS-90D013 and NMS-CCEC73) and Kent (KENT-503C38). A particularly similar example is published in Oman ( 1974, pl 22B).
