A rim sherd from a Roman dish of South Midlands shell-tempered ware. This pottery was probably produced at Harrold, Bedfordshire and dates from the 3rd to early 5th century AD.
The rim itself has a flattened upper surface and has an angled outer face, at the base of which is a shallow groove. The wall of the vessel would have angled upwards at approximately 60 degrees from the now-missing base. The fabric is pinkish-orange to dark grey and has a moderate amount of small crushed shell temper. The edges of the sherd are relatively unabraded.
Dimensions: 56.2mm wide, 55mm high, 11.5mm thick at rim. Weight: 45.67g.
