An incomplete copper alloy buckle plate of Post Medieval date, probably dating from the sixteenth or seventeenth century. The main plate of the object is oval with a narrow extension before a tri-lobed terminal. One lobe of the terminal is missing. Projecting from the other end of the plate are two long tabs which curve and then break at the end. These would have formed the hinges of the buckle plate and extended to form the backplate which is now missing.

The external surface of the plate has cast decoration consisting of curvilinear grooves to create a stylised leaf design. There are two circular fixing holes in the plate, one positioned slightly off centre near the trefoil terminal and one above the broken hooks. The rivets are missing. The object has a patchy bright green patina.

This object would have been one of two or three fittings that together formed the fittings for a sword belt. For similar examples see LVPL-A229F0, WILT-FCC585 and SOM-114C52 which notes the following: "Whitehead (2003) illustrates a similar plate attached to a buckle (page 68, No.423) which he dates to c.1550-1650. The similarity of these buckles, in particular the tri-lobed buckle plate, to contemporary sword belt hangers (Cf. Read (2001), fig.26, no.373) suggests they are part of a suite of items for a sword belt."
