An extremely worn Medieval silver cut short cross halfpenny of John or Henry III (1199-1272 AD). Mint of London; moneyer unknown. Probably North Class 6 or 7, issued between c. 1209-1242 AD. Cf. North 1994, Vol I, p. 222, nos. 974/1-980.
There are two pelleted curls on the remaining side of the bust, closed and rounded 'C' and 'S' made by thicker crescents in 'hENRICVS'; however, due to information lost due to cutting in half and additional surface abrasion, a full identification is difficult. It is likely that this coin should be attributed to the latter portion of this period and to Henry III.
