A complete copper-alloy ferrule of probable Medieval date. It is cylindrical, formed from a single sheet of copper-alloy folded and pinched together forming the tube shape. The entire object tapers slightly towards the rounded terminal end, which has a moulded transverse rectangular collar. The exterior surfaces are extremely worn, although traces of a dark brown patina survives. It measures 84.71mm in length, 8.59mm in diameter (at attachment end, 6.56mm at terminal) and 10.34g in weight.
This is a copper-alloy ferrule that finds close parallels in an example published from Winchester (Biddle, 1990: no. 4096). This suggests a later Medieval date for the current example, perhaps in the 14th to 15th centuries AD if not slightly later.
