Unique ID: HAMP-88FDA0

Object type certainty: Certain
Workflow status: Awaiting validation Find awaiting validation

A worn and incomplete cast copper-alloy late Medieval to early Post Medieval double looped annular buckle dating to c. AD 1450-1550. The buckle is incomplete as the pin is missing. The buckle frame is shaped to resemble a five petalled flower in plan, with the petals created by five lateral incisions from the exterior edge of the frame. At three of the petals, the exterior edge has been worn flat, whilst the two others have a slight concave central dip. The central apertures are 'D' shaped in plan, and bevelled diagonally at the exterior edges; the pin bar is sub-triangular in section. The underside is plain and undecorated. This artefact has a light green colour overall, with several identical examples represented in Whitehead (1996: 47, nos. 272-4).

This buckle measures 26.7mm in length and 27.2mm in width with a thickness of 2.6mm. It weighs 6.01 grams.
